The world is going MAD for puffer jackets at the moment. We can't keep them on the shelves! But they are a tricky garment to style.
So we have broken down our top tips to help you style them outside of the square and get way more use out of them than just t shirts and jeans! Don't get us wrong, puffer jackets look UNREAL with t shirts and jeans. Add a pair of sneakers or amazing Senso ankle boots and GO! But you know us, our motto is "Buy well, buy once" and we always show you so many different ways to wear your purchases from us so you get maximum wear and value out of your Miko + Mollie garments and love them for years to come!
Out with fast fashion (not literally. Don't throw it out. That's the problem with the fast fashion industry in the first place! Just don't buy it! It's bad for the environment and your wallet!), and in with great quality investment pieces you will love and wear again and again. Pieces you will VALUE and want to wear for years to come. That's the difference. And it's so much better for you, your wardrobe and the environment. And we don't want to reward those people manufacturing and selling low quality, low value garments to end up in landfill within a year! We want to support people encouraging a responsible and ethical way of living - including what we invest in and wear.
So here are our top tips to get maximum wear out of your puffers!
Puffers are designed for heavy layering! This style makes aesthetic sense when it is layered over other garments so have a play with the sports luxe look, layering puffers over activewear (with sneakers for casual or heels for that key sports luxe look we're all loving!) or layering up over other jackets, shirts, playing with lengths poking out from under your puffer and throw on a beanie or hat for good measure!
PLAY WITH LENGTHS...BUT BE CAREFUL
Puffers can be tough to style because they have a HUGE presence and drop pretty low on your hip which can make them tricky to style with long lengths (maxi dresses and skirts). Pants, jeans, shorts and shorter skirts and dresses are all easy! Longer dresses and skirts are harder. If you are going to style these, commit to off-the-wall style. And you'll need to wear your outfit with ATTITUDE. Commit to the look and layer it up with hoodies, shirts and chunky sneakers or a great ankle boot.
We repeat: you can style puffers with any jeans, slim fit pants, shorts or short skirts. Longer dresses, midi and full skirts, and full/wideleg pants are harder and you will need to commit to the full, crazy look! It can be done. But it needs to be done well. If you're not into that look then stick to jeans, slim fit pants, shorts and shorter skirts and dresses.
PLAY WITH PRINTS AND TEXTURES
Puffer jackets are one of the styles that are ALWAYS coming out in different textures and prints. A plain black puffer is still one of our best selling styles but it's actually harder to style. If you style a plain black puffer with a plain tee and jeans it's a bit 'meh'. If you style a textured or printed puffer with a plain tee and jeans it has an element of style to it that a plainer jacket wouldn't have achieved.
Textures and prints also give you a chance to really UP the style. We recommend playing with tones. This is our best tip. When it comes to prints and textures, keep the rest of your outfit within the same colour scheme and you'll end up looking super stylish!
RELY ON T SHIRTS AND JEANS!
We've said it before and we'll say it again, t shirts and jeans look great with puffers but don't wear your puffers that way every time. They have some serious style to offer you so take advantage! Use these tips to think outside the square and style some different outfits. You'll get more wear out of your puffer and more wear out of other items in your wardrobe, as well as looking super stylish and on trend!
BE SCARED OF MAKING A HUGE STATEMENT!
Puffers are a statement jacket and if you shy away from making a statement you will just end up wearing them with tees and jeans and you'll be missing out on some really cool outfits you have right at your fingertips in your own wardrobe! Lean into the trend, embrace it and let your imagination run wild. We have given you some great tips in this blog post to do this safely (eg the tips on lengths, keeping busier patterns and textures tonal etc) but if you're ever not sure, ask us! We're always here to help you guys. That's what family's for.
So we hope these tips help you play with the puffer trend and make it your own! We can't wait to see how you guys style them!
